Injectables

Injectable treatments are the leading minimally invasive way of addressing fine lines, wrinkles, and other facial concerns. With FDA approval, they are rigorously tested and proven safe and effective.

We specialize in two forms of injectables at our practice: BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®.

BOTOX Cosmetic

The most popular injectable for wrinkles and fine lines, BOTOX Cosmetic primarily treats dynamic wrinkles, also known as expression lines. These are lines that typically form between the eyebrows, around the mouth and nose, and around the eyes. By temporarily paralyzing the underlying muscles, BOTOX Cosmetic prevents these wrinkles and lines from forming.

Some muscle paralysis is necessary to achieve results, but our skilled injectors can minimize the effects to give you the greatest enhancement without compromising your expressiveness.

Dysport

Dysport uses a milk protein that breaks down faster than BOTOX Cosmetic, leading to more noticeable results in seven vs. 14+ days. The underlying principle of the injectables is the same: Dysport and BOTOX are both neuromodulators made from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The greatest difference lies in their potency and effectiveness; since one unit of BOTOX is equal to three units of Dysport, you will need more Dysport to achieve the same results.

Which Treatment Is Right for Me?

Choosing an injectable is often done based on several factors:

  • Cost: BOTOX Cosmetic costs more than Dysport, but because patients need more units of Dysport than BOTOX, the cost could wind up being the same or comparable. This will depend on the number of units you need. Whenever you choose an injectable, you should consider the overall cost compared to the expected results and how long they will last.
  • Treatment Area: Some injectables are made to target specific areas of the face, and they may be more effective than others in addressing particular concerns. When it comes to BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport, you’re in luck. They are designed to treat the same areas, including expression lines on the forehead, glabellar lines (the “11s”), nasolabial folds, nose wrinkles, and lines around the eyes.
  • Duration of Results: Both BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport last three to four months; the difference lies in how long it takes to see results. Patients can see results from Dysport in as few as three days, whereas most BOTOX Cosmetic patients have to wait up to two weeks for the full results to become evident.
