Achieve smoother, firmer, more radiant skin with SkinPen® Microneedling—a scientifically proven treatment offered here at Florida Westcoast Skin and Cancer Center. Whether you're seeking to reduce the appearance of scars, fine lines, or uneven tone, SkinPen can help unlock your skin’s natural renewal process with minimal downtime.

What Is SkinPen Microneedling?

SkinPen® is a medical-grade microneedling device cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It works by creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin using ultra-fine, sterile needles. These tiny channels stimulate your body’s natural healing cascade, increasing production of collagen and elastin—two essential proteins that give skin its elasticity, strength, and youthful texture.

What Concerns Can SkinPen Help With?

At Florida Westcoast Skin and Cancer Center, we use SkinPen to address a variety of common skin concerns, including:

  • Acne scars and other types of scarring
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Uneven skin texture and tone
  • Large pores
  • Hyperpigmentation, sun damage, and discolored patches
  • Neck wrinkles or crepey skin in delicate areas

What to Expect: The Procedure

Here’s what you’ll experience when you get SkinPen treatment at our office:

Consultation & Skin Assessment

Before treatment, one of our dermatologists will review your medical history, examine your skin condition, and discuss your goals to determine if SkinPen is appropriate for you.

Preparation

Your skin will be cleansed, and a topical numbing agent may be applied to minimize discomfort.

Microneedling Treatment

The SkinPen device with sterile disposable needle cartridges is then passed over the treatment area, creating micro-channels at a depth appropriate for your skin type and your specific concerns.

Post-Treatment Care

Your skin may feel warm, show redness or mild swelling immediately afterwards—similar to a mild sunburn. You’ll be given soothing and hydrating products, and instructed to avoid excessive sun exposure, heat, or harsh skincare for several days.

Timeline of Results & Treatment Plan

Many patients notice a fresh glow to their skin within a week. More visible improvements in texture, tone, and lift typically take several weeks as collagen and elastin remodel.

A typical course involves 3-6 sessions spaced about 3-6 weeks apart, depending on your skin’s needs and goals.

Maintenance treatments may be recommended once or twice a year to help preserve results.

Is SkinPen Safe?

SkinPen is safe for all skin types and tones when performed by trained, experienced providers.

However, there are certain conditions in which microneedling may not be advised or may require modifications:

  • Active acne flare-ups or open lesions
  • Certain medical conditions (e.g., relying on treatments or medications that affect healing)
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding (depending on individual factors)
  • History of keloid scarring or poor wound healing
  • Recent use of isotretinoin (Accutane) or certain skin treatments that might increase risk of irritation

During your consultation, we will review these and any other relevant medical issues to ensure safety.
